If I Had $100, I'd Turn On the Light

The world has many problems today. But I’m only going to focus on one -- spiritual darkness. Where there is no light, the people stumble. Without God’s Word guiding our lives, we make bad decisions and have to live with the consequences, thus affecting not only our own lives but the lives of generations to come.

If we looked at all the problems of the world in more detail, we would probably come to the conclusion that most of the issues can be traced back to ONE PROBLEM -- our disobedience to God. We’ve all chosen our own path and rejected God’s path. When we operate out of our limited knowledge we are bound to make mistakes. Unfortunately, those mistakes cause a ripple affect down through generation and generation.

So how do improve the situation? What can one person do to make the world a better place? It starts with your own heart. Where do you stand with God? Have you recognized you are a sinner and need a Savior? If not, that’s the first step.

But what about someone who has given their life to Jesus Christ, what’s the next step? For the believer, it’s a matter of learning to walk by the Spirit and not by the flesh.

Why is it so important for us to walk by the Spirit? It is because everything we do has an affect on someone else. None of us live without affecting someone in some way or another. We are all connected and therefore, we are affected when someone does something. That something could be a good thing or a bad thing. The choice is yours. Do you want to impact someone for good or for bad?

So the way I see it, when we personally start living differently, we affect others around us positively. They become challenged by our godly life and motivated to live better. They see what we have in our life – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control – and they want it too.

If I had $100, I’d hold a contest to determine who could implement God’s principles in their life consistently for 30 days and who experienced the most significant change in attitude, thoughts, or behavior during the challenge time period.

Anyone may enter the contest, whether they believe in God or not. The rules are simple:

The winner of the contest will received $100. The winner will be the person who followed the rules above and had the most significant change in their lifestyle, attitude and behaviors as a result of this contest. There is only ONE winner. Contest ends March 31, 2007.

By the way, THIS IS A REAL CONTEST. If you are interested in taking this challenge, follow the rules above and send your journal responses to contest@thinkonit.org.

By challenging others to live for God, they will make better decisions. And, that’s what I would do with a $100 to make the world a better place.
